Welcome to Sacred Starfish™
Sacred Starfish is my first album of songs designed to uplift humanity. I had never thought of myself as a songwriter until I completed one personal development program. After that weekend the songs literally came pouring out of me. I wrote sixteen songs in the space of five months. These songs were archived until I met a gentlemen who was driving me from the airport to my home and he shared that he wrote and sang songs. I got his number and we met and he turned my first poem into a song. The man of course is Rick Mathews. The rest as they say is histoy. We have since been working on many new songs and have been incorporating them into our incredible business trainings with our company Frontier Trainings.

Starfish Story (By Loren Eiseley 1907-1977 – Adapted from ‘The Star Thrower' 1975)
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”
“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.
To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die.”
Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!”
At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “I made a difference to that one!”

BACKGROUND
When Rick and reunited after a four year break I mentioned I wanted to write a theme song for introduction course called ‘Play To Win'. I wrote the lyrics and then handed it over and within a short space of time he came up with this song. We have now played it at over fifteen events internationally it was the precursor to the flood of sings that have since come specially written for certain games.
LYRICS
All right….Lets Go
On your mark, Get set, Off we go
Move, shift get into the flow
A mission I’m on to reach the goal
Be the best, a song from the soul
Barely Playing. Huh That’s not for me.
Success is mine. Wait ‘n’ see
Playing hard but not to lose
Not for me. It’s Victory I choose
All the way playing full out because
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
Skill, ease and effortless grace
Speeding along at an increasing pace
As the pressure climbs so do I
Raising my game so I can fly
Testing my edge till my limit I reach
Lessons I learn, my spirit I teach
When the games are tight, and their on the line
Time to breakout and truly shine
Victory is mine because
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
As I reach inside and Dare to be great
I dance. I yell and I celebrate
Woh Oh Oh. Nanananana Lalalalalalalalala
Woh Oh Oh I’m Playing To Win
When I hit the wall, I just breakthrough
Nothing can stop me. I feel brand new
I pick up my game. Play my best
I Reach in Deep. Stand above the rest
Play To Win……
When the games are tight, and their on the line
Time to breakout and truly shine
Victory is mine because
I’m Playing To Win…Yeah
Everybody sing with me….1..2..3…4
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
As I reach inside and Dare to be great
I dance. I yell and I celebrate
Woh Oh Oh. Nanananana Lalalalalalalalala
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
As I reach inside and Dare to be great
I dance. I yell and I celebrate
Woh Oh Oh. Nanananana Lalalalalalalalala
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
I’m Playing To Win…
As I reach inside and Dare to be great
I dance. I yell and I celebrate
2. Courage – Guardians of the Free
BACKGROUND
I wrote this song in 2002 in the early days of meeting Rick. It represented my love and appreciation of many of the great world leaders and what they had done to stand up for peace. I called them the Guardians of the Free because each one was willing to lose their own life to further their vision of the world. It is truly incredible leaders, thinkers, soliders and explorers like these that shape the world we live in. I lvoe the line it is your world we make. It reminds me to step up and play a bigger game and help shape the world rather than be shaped by it.
LYRICS
CHORUS
We stand. We fight
We won’t back down
We stand with might
Defending our ground
We work. We plan
We fight for Peace
We work all we can
We will never cease
We risk. We dare
We take the chance
We risk while scared
Cos life’s a dance
We protect. We save
We defend the sick
We protect. We’re brave
To the end we’ll stick
We live. We love
We open our hearts
We live to give
Till the last departs
We hunt. We seek
For truth we look
We hunt for weeks
Though every book
For the world, we stand
You ask ‘Who are WE’
The courageous, the noble
The Guardians of the FREE
Join us if you can
The rewards are great
Lend us a hand
It’s your world we make
We are JFK, and Luther King
Gandhi and Di
With Lennon we sing
And the Wright Brothers we fly
We’re Washington and Lincoln
We’re Grant and Lee
An unnamed solder
Who fights so you’re free
We’re puritans and patriots,
We’re Columbus and Drake
We’re founders and explorers
Risking it all to take
We’re Artists and Musicians
Who risk to be bold
Shakespeare and Mozart
With a story to be told
We’re scientists and inventors
With boundaries to explore
Newton, Einstein, Bell
And so many more
CHORUS
For the world, we stand
You ask ‘Who are WE’
We are the courageous, the noble
The Guardians of the FREE
Join us if you can
The rewards are great
Lend us a hand
It’s your world we make
CHORUS
3. Creativity – My Inner Child
BACKGROUND
This is one of my earliest songs and it is still one of my favorites. It is written to be a kids song and every line is designed to have actions associated to it so it can be made physical and memorable. I would love to turn it into a children's sing along book at one time.
Not only is this for children but one of the last lines when my adult lets me be free really reflects back on ourselves and we let our own inner child out what can we do. Since writing this Frontier Trainings has emerged and I get to do so many of these roles; princess, knight, rockstar, astronaut, explorer, policeman. I feel truly blessed to be have let out my inner child or as I prefer to put it let out my infinite spirit to play and have fun.
LYRICS
Jumping in a puddle, playing in the rain,
Running around a room like a choo-choo train
Painting a picture, painting the door,
Painting everything including the floor,
Climbing, climbing, climbing up a tree,
Looking, looking as far as I can see
Muddy, dirty, covered in grime
Playing in mud is a cool, cool time
Singing out strong, singing out loud,
Singing so much, mom would be proud,
Climbing the monkey bars, round and round,
Hanging by my feet until I fall down,
Writing a poem, that is crazy but true,
Lots of funny things about me and you
Eating pie and my ice cream first,
Eating, eating till I will burst
Playing with the dog out the back,
When it licks me, I lick it back
Running barefoot all through the grass
Running in circles till out I pass
Building a sandcastle so high and tall
Watching the waves make it fall
Running, exploring the deep dark caves,
Sitting in rock puddles filling with waves
I have wings and I can fly
You can too, if only you’d try
Dreaming, dreaming of all I can be,
A Lion, a spider and everything free,
A princess, a knight, a rockstar too,
An explorer, an astronaut. What are you?
A policeman, a ballerina, a dancing bear,
A hippo or a dog with really long hair
I can be whatever I choose,
Life's too short, I’ve nothing to lose,
There is a wild child inside of me,
When my adult lets me be free,
Dancing, dancing, dancing wild,
I'm in touch with my inner child
Hold hands with me as I create,
A life so fun that I feel great.
4. Perseverance – Reach The Top
Play sample:
BACKGROUND
I found a motivational plaque one time with a couple of profound statements on it and it inspired me to put this song together. Life can be strange with twists and turns. I can certainly relate to debts are high and funds are low and smiling so you don't cry. We use this song in the training room after an exercise on perserverence and breaking through the desire to quit. It is a powerful reminder that victory often goes to the person who pursued when others had all quit.
LYRICS
Life is a strange with its twists and turns
Never ending lessons for me to learn
So often can a failure turn about
Into success when I stick it out
Paths often don’t go straight
And sidetracks can be tempting bait
Obstacles make an imposing block
Real and hard and solid as a rock
CHORUS
When things go wrong as they often will
My path in front seems only uphill
When funds are low, debts are high
I want to smile but can only cry
I take a rest but never stop
Only the determined reach the top
Barriers lose their major role
When staying focused on my goal
Simply another circumstance
Overcome give half a chance
Another failure is another step
A method tested, its record kept
Before the world can see my dream
I learn to live at the other extreme
CHORUS
I take a rest but never stop
Only the determined reach the top
Lessor beings will often quit
Needing only one more hit
The world is full of half intent
Of attempts made to eighty percent
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah
CHORUS
I succeeded and reached the top
CHORUS
I take a rest but never stop
Only the determined reach the top
CHORUS
5. Love – I Have Always Loved You
Press play:
BACKGROUND
This was my first love song duet. The idea was of a couple separated for a period of time thinking of each other and gradually coming together and embracing each other and finally closing their eyes in a warm embrace of love. Rick did a great job putting this together with a friend of his who came over and sang. I look forward to creating many more love songs in the future and even at some point doing an album of just love songs.
LYRICS
To me love means everything,
All the happiness that life can bring
A joyful smile, a heart to race,
A gentle touch, a warm embrace
A loving glance, a sneaky wink,
A light, caress, a soft sweet kiss
Holding my breath I wait for you,
Anxious to share our connection too
And as I recall your smiling face,
I remember I love you, I really love you,
I have always loved you
And as I recall your caring soul,
I remember I love you, I really love you,
I have always, always loved you
To me love means everything,
All the happiness that life can bring
A joyful smile, a heart to race,
A gentle touch, a warm embrace
Your funny laugh, with hands on hips
Your sultry look, with pouty lips
Playful games that do abound
My true love I have found
And as I recall your smiling face,
I remember I love you, I really love you,
I have always loved you
And as I recall your loving heart,
I remember I love you, I really love you,
I have always, always loved you
And as you enter, my smile grows wide
I begin thinking I love you
As I breath in deeply your perfume
I say I love you
As I touch your shining locks
I say I love you
As I dive into your deep soft eyes
I say I love you
As we embrace in each others arms
I say I love you, I really love you,
I have always loved you
And as I close my joyful eyes
I say I love you, I really love you,
I have always, always loved you
6. Vulnerability – My Love Came Too Late
Play sample:
BACKGROUND
I remember writing this song very vividly. My wife Kelley was driving us through the hills of West Virigina and I sat in the passenger seat with my feet up on the dash, notepad in hand while making notes. This song was inspired by the idea of a big strong man standing by the grave side of the woman he loved but had previously never been able to express his love for her. Finally he breaks and the tears start to flow. It is amazing how much as men we are not supposed to show our emotions.
When Rick put the music to it, with the musical waves of grief it just hit a chord. I have strong memories of the song ‘The Living Years' by Mike and the Mechanics where a man regrets his fathers passing. This song is along a similar vein of regret and the chance to start expressing it before it becomes too late. Whenever I listen to this song I call my parents just to express how much I love them. I trust that when you listen you can open your heart….
LYRICS
I love you came too late
Never again shall we kiss
Our time together has passed
Your heart I’ll surely miss
Our lives should have been special
Our time together great
We could have created magic
But my love came too late
I would love to sing a song
But I would never even try
I may seem big and strong
But inside I’m really shy
We’ve had amazing moments
Parties raw and wild
Crying inside of me
Is a hurt little child
I’ve loved you in my thoughts
Scared to speak out loud
Afraid of looking foolish
Being noticed in a crowd
How do I say I love you
I was the garden that you tend
Your heart was light and true
My dear and closest friend
How do I say ‘I’m sorry’
All the times I let you down
To hurt you all the time
My heart I never found
How do I show my pride
Of the lives that we shared
Telling others of my feelings
When I’m too afraid to dare
Now your time has come
And you’re no longer here
I finally found my heart
And I’ve shed my first soft tear
Can’t hold back any more
And I don’t need to lie
It’s different than before
I can really cry
I love you came too late
Never again shall we kiss
Our time together has passed
Your heart I’ll surely miss
Our lives should have been special
Our time together great
We could have created magic
But my love came too late
7. Beauty – Your Beauty Shines Through Night and Day
Play sample:
BACKGROUND
This was the first song I wrote and it was a poem I put together in a card for my girlfriend who then shortly after became my finance and then my wife Kelley. This was the beginning of a flood of poetry that I started writing that then turned into music when I met Rick. It does not take me long to play this song, start thinking of Kelley and then have tears form in the corner of my eyes.
It has been a long journey together. We have had some really tough patches to get through with the business and her undying love and peace and calm is such a relief. I love her through night and day and I hope you can find the depth of love in this song.
LYRICS
Your beauty is a rose, not yet in bloom,
Of radiance and light, brightening the room,
Expectations still yet unmet,
A heart still waiting, a gemstone unset
Your beauty is a sunrise, before a perfect day
A colorful rainbow after a gentle rain
Sparkling water on a misty lake
My heart is yours for you to take
Chorus
Your beauty shines through night and day,
Your life is so amazing in every way,
You’re everything my heart desires
Your love sets my heart on fire
Your beauty shines through night and day,
I’m yours whatever come what may
Always let you beauty shine through night day
Your beauty is like a fresh fall of snow,
Covering all with a glistening glow,
Your beauty is like a cloud so white,
Angels live in sheer delight
Chorus
You beauty is like a newborn child,
Sweet and innocent, and sometimes wild
Chorus
Come let your beauty shine through night and day
You’re beautiful
8. Liberty – The Choice To Be Free
Play sample:
BACKGROUND
This was one of the first songs I wrote which was meant to be played by a Rock group. Liberty is a word not used any more. It seems antiquated along with Patrick Henry's statement ‘Give me Liberty or give me Death!!'. Liberty is a personal choice of freedom. Freedom from control. Freedom from Tyranny. Freedom from exploitation. Liberty can come at a price. Sometimes we need to stand up against what is wrong and sometimes it even costs our life. So many great leaders or potential leaders have died fighting for the liberty of their fellows. This song is a tribute to all who have stood before so we can be here listening to music, living our lives on our terms and being able to shape our own destinies.
LYRICS
The life within, the life without,
The life to have when you want to shout,
Liberty. The choice to be free
To sing and yell, and dance and scream,
When life is lived whatever your means,
Liberty. The choice to be free
CHORUS
To march and stand up for your rights
Standing strong with gentle might
To love all others with your heart
To stop the world from falling apart
Liberty. The choice to be free
When the chains are broken, the shackles off
The day is to short to do enough
Liberty. The choice to be free
Freedom has a heavy price
Sometimes even costs your life
Liberty. The choice to be free
CHORUS
To help a neighbor in times of need
Step right up and take the lead
Speak up, be heard, don’t be afraid
The future is a choice you make
CHORUS
Everybody Sing
Liberty, liberty young liberty
Liberty, liberty sweet liberty
The choice to be free
Play sample:
BACKGROUND
In my journey of personal growth, I was talking with others and the idea of technology came up and how in this incrdible world we live in, what we do today would sem like magic to people 20 years ago let along 100 years ago. We live today in more luxury than kings and queens did ago a long time ago; Central heating, affordable clothing, food, cars, planes, television, cell phones. So much that do today is magical and sometimes it is nice to take a moment and appreciate the incredible gifts we live with everyday. A pencil or pen would have been a treasure 200 years ago. You mean no ink!!! This song is about the value of what we have and all those things that also do not cost money. Smiles, love and natural wonders. Enjoy!!
LYRICS
CHORUS
Magic. Magic. Magic’s all around
Listen closely. Hear that sound
Watch carefully. Can’t you see
It’s all around, both you and me
How about a child’s toothless grin,
There’s magic there so let it in
A giant wave, a strange shaped rock
A deep, dark cave, a chiming clock
There’s magic in a tree to climb
Lovely poetry that always rhymes
A mysterious castle, a flowing stream
Pyramids, Temples Oh what a dream
CHORUS
Pay attention and watch close now
You’ll see it and hear it
And here is how
A baby’s sleeping, a couples first date
There is magic in staying out late
A polished classic and sporty red
Cars are magic ask any rev head
Sport is magic like the last touchdown
The final seconds, I have always found
Kobe shooting with 2 seconds to go
What magic. What skill. Oh What a show
CHORUS
Pay attention and watch close now
You’ll see it and hear it
And here is how
When you’re sad and diving for covers
Think of the magic and how you can touch others
Not all in the world, have magic to see
Let’s open up the world with our magical key
CHORUS
10. Giving – Love Unshared Never Stays
Play sample:
BACKGROUND
I love this song. When I was going through my own transformation one of my biggest lessons is that to truly get what you want you need to give it away. You want love. Be loving. You want peace. Be peaceful. It is in the giving that you receive. You cannot hoard love hence the name of the song, Love unshared never stays. You cannot hoard love, peace, honesty, integrity it is only through its expression does it come into existence. This is a lifelong lesson and one that needs to be continually expressed to truly get it. I trust that this lesson can land as deeply with you as it has with me and you will become a lifelong giver as well.
LYRICS
CHORUS
Give, Give, Give it away
Love unshared never stays
Give it all. Why not Fly
Let your rewards multiply
Help a child smile, or a child sing
Give love to a child. Give everything
Giving is about being gentle yet strong
Loving others can never be wrong
Boundaries exist only in thought
Give everything for what you’ve sought
Give to your brother and your sister too
Give to everyone including you
CHORUS
The more you give the more you get
The limit you have is the one you set
So give, give it away
Help a stranger, give a hand
Repeating someone’s name, goes a mile
People love to hear their name
Then they matter, so play the game
Offer help if they need it or not
Pride can be a lonely block
Pick up a box or carry a bag
Good things come because of lag
CHORUS
The more you give the more you get
The limit you have is the one you set
So give, give it away
The richest man gives the most
Giving his all from coast to coast
Inspire others to give as well
On the planet where we all dwell
CHORUS
The more you give the more you get
The limit you have is the one you set
So…..
CHORUS
The more you give the more you get
The limit you have is the one you set
So….
CHORUS
11. Choice – Living In The Drift
BACKGROUND
In one of the courses I attended they used the term drift to represent the numbness of mankind when they are separated, inward focused and disconnected from the impact of their lives on others. I decided to write a song about the shift of mankind to greater awareness and centred around the social unconscious. Making a deliberate positive impact on others is a choice hence the name of the song and a key part of this is taking your word as sacrosanct. Honoring your word to yourself and others is the fastest way to freedom and prosperity and I hope in this song you too can find an opening for greater awareness.
LYRICS
Life is such a precious gift
Why do I choose to live in this drift
Challenges in life are really tough
When I’m drowning in my stuff
Each day I’d put on my masks
Taken from a distorted past
Life is bring when it has no juice
Choosing to die than face the truth
CHORUS
Headlines, Deadlines Wars and Rifts
Life is hell living in the Drift
Boring Jobs and Passionless Lives
Running on a treadmill to survive
Break free from the mindless herd
Choose living and breathing your every word
I no longer wish to just survive
I am finally choosing to be alive
Finally I am living my word
No more following the mindless herd
Thanks for this incredible gift
I can finally now escape the drift
Oh. When I am scared and diving for covers
I will stand strong and go touch others
CHORUS
Now’s the time for the world to shift
Let us all destroy this drift
Its time for consciousness to move again
The way that life does now intend
CHORUS
12. Vision – This World of Mine
Play sample:
BACKGROUND
This song was a deeply moving experience for me when I wrote it. I had been doing a lot of work on myself and was diving into the core values that made me who I am. I carried my binder with me with the list of the values the children repeat in the song to remind me who I am at my core. Rick suggested we get children to read out the values and while it was challenging for him to get them to do it perfectly I am so glad he did it. There is something eerily powerful in these children sharing these values out loud. I truly believe in a united world and although understand the work the world needs to get there I am committed to doing my part to unite, uplift and inspire us in this world of mine.
LYRICS
My vision is so clear, sharp and bright
A world that is healed in a soothing light
A world of honesty, truth and peace
Of brothers and sisters sharing a feast
Where we all come together
To share as one
The planet is our sandpit
To play and have fun
Diversity is my paint box
So the world comes alive
Everyone is welcome
in this world of mine
CHORUS
We may different but we’re all the same
Just grown up children lost in a daze
Pangea is a world united as one
Laughing, sharing, and all having fun
No more pain, no more hurt
No more homeless lying in the dirt
Racism and Bigotry will finally depart
When each is measured by the size of their heart
Wealth is not measured by how much your paid
Rather by how much you have given away
Wars of all kind will finally end
When honor each other as long lost friends
CHORUS
Everyone gets the life of their dreams
In an amazing life along a never ending stream
By giving to others and lending a hand
Everyone benefits across the land
There is power in the spoken word
Let our children finally be heard
Integrity…Abundance…Beauty…Compassion
Courage…. Creativity…..Connected.
Empowerment……Excellence……Fun-Loving
Giving….Harmony……Honesty
Honor…..Humility….Justice
Leadership……Liberty….Loyalty
Love…..Outrageous…..Passion
Peace…..Trust……Unity
Valor…..Vulnerability….Vision
CHORUS
